Bottle Bird Feeder

bottle bird feeder

I had seen this design of bird feeder and wanted to have a go at making one. I had everything that was needed for it, an empty wine bottle (I had a few to choose from) and some pallet wood.

I started by getting all the parts cut to size using the table saw. It is a pretty simple shape, just a box with a 45º point at the top for the roof.

With all the components cut I could get it put together. I just used some wood glue, screws and nails.

To support the empty wine bottle I used a hole saw to drill a couple of holes in some scraps of wood. One large enough for the neck of the bottle and the other the body.

I filled the bottle with bird seed and experimented to to see how far off the base it needed to be to allow the seeds to dispense at the desired rate. When I was happy with it the wooden supports for the bottle could be glued into place.

To finish it I painted it in an exterior paint then it could be hung outside.

Thats it all done. I hope the birds like it.
