Handmade Easter Gifts

wooden egg holders

With Ester coming up I wanted to make some handmade wooded gifts for the family. I decided to make three different designs, an egg rack, egg tray and egg cup.

The first two of these designs use quite a few tools. Thats the trouble with having lots of tools, you find ways to use them. But with the egg cup I show how something can be made with just some basic tools.

First I made an egg rack to hold a dozen fresh hens egg. This is made out of oak, with a series of holes drilled out for the eggs to sit in. The rack is all joined together using finger or box joints.

The egg tray is also made of oak but this time a piece I had with a nice waney edge. To make this fist I had to produce a template. The template was just a bit of plywood with 6 evenly spaces holes in it then I could use a router bit to cut the little dishes for the eggs to sit.

For the third project I wanted to show you could make something with just some simple tools. Using just a hand drill a series of holes could be drilled into a block of wood to make a simple egg holder. I tried this but then decided to cut mine out and make individual egg cups.

I hope you liked this project and it has inspired you to make some handmade gifts for easter this year.
